Site Survey and Design services
The Japanese electronics giant, NEC, has a contract with Airwave (the emergency services network) to replace the lease lines that connect their sites together (backhaul) with a new microwave link based network. In order to establish the physical and technical solution for each site a survey is arried out followed by a design that provides the most value for money, appropriate solution to meet the requirements of all stakeholders.
NEC called upon the Principal Telecom Design department, working in conjunction with the Acquisition and Network Planning teams, to carry out these design services that are critical to the cost effective roll out of the network. The work was on sites owned by, and rented from, private landlords and included various site types from greenfield towers, structures shared with other operators and complex installations on building roof tops.
Once the Design Survey teams had established what was required on each site to deliver a cost effective solution, the necessary technical and specification information, and drawings were produced. This allowed the Build and Installation teams following on to carry out the works on site with the maximum efficiency and minimum cost to the client. In the event that Town & Country Planning Approval was required, then detailed submission drawings were also produced.
The project involves works on over 2,200 sites in less than three years and is part of a wider services provision to NEC on this project, including line-of-sight (LoS), site acquisition and town planning, and site build/modification services.
